THE Confederation of African Football has postponed the draw for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
The draw was initially set for 25 June but it has now been shifted ‘for logistical reasons’ occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic, according to CAF.
“At the request of CAF, the Cameroon Local Organizing Committee (LOC) has agreed to postpone the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2021 final draw for logistical reasons related to the Covid-19 pandemic,” CAF announced on Sunday.
“The draw was initially scheduled for 25 June 2021 and a new date will be announced in due course.”
The tournament itself was originally fixed for 2021 but had to be moved by one year to early 2022 because of the virus.
The African ruling body says it will ensure the tournament goes ahead without hindrance this time.
“CAF continues to work together with its partners, the Cameroon government and the LOC with the objective of making theTotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2021 a successful event and a great celebration of African football,” it added.
The Super Eagles are one of the 24 teams that have qualified for the tournament in Cameroon.
Algeria are defending champions after beating Senegal in the 2019 final in Cairo, Egypt.
