Euro 2020: Brave Scotland deny England at Wembley as Croatia hold Czech Republic

SCOTLAND put up a spirited display on Friday night to draw 0-0 with England in their European Championship clash.

The contest between neighbours at Wembley Stadium in London was intense but there were too few clearcut scoring chances.

England made key changes to their line-up that defeated Czech Republic on Sunday, bringing in Luke Shaw and Reece James in place of Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker.

Harry Kane retained his place as the arrowhead of the attack but the Tottenham Hotspur striker was starved of service in a match where Scotland’s defence stood firm.

Scotland’s major strengths were in their central defence and the left side where Liverpool’s Andy Robertson and Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney were superb both defensively and offensively.

In a desperate bid to get something out of the game, England boss Gareth Southgate introduced Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish, taking off the ineffective Kane and Phil Foden.

The changes had little effect on the game as Scotland got their first Euro 2020 point after their defeat to Czech Republic in their opening game.

With the draw, England went to second place in Group D with four points, the same as leaders Czech Republic who drew 1-1 with Croatia earlier on Friday.

England and Czech Republic are almost certain of progressing, while the winners of the clash between Croatia and Scotland should join them on the round of 16.
