TWO players, both defenders, have been cut from the Super Eagles squad ahead of the friendly against Mexico.

The wholly home-based Nigeria squad will face Mexico in a friendly at the iconic Los Angeles Coliseum in California, United States of America on 3 July.

Twenty-five players from the Nigeria Professional Football League were invited to prepare for the game in Abuja, with 22 to be named in the squad that will head out to the US.

Two of those players have now been dropped: Rivers United’s Ifeanyi Anaemena and Christopher Nwaeze of Kwara United, both of whom are highly regarded in the NPFL.

Meanwhile, Enyimba trio of goalkeeper John Noble, midfielder Dayo Ojo and forward Anayo Iwuala arrived at the Abuja camp after featuring for their club in Wednesday’s 1-0 NPFL win over Abia Warriors.

Kunke Adeleke of Abia Warriors was also involved in the rescheduled fixture and he travelled to Abuja with the Enyimba stars.

The friendly in Los Angeles serves as a part of Mexico’s preparations for the defence of their CONCACAF Gold Cup title.

The tournament will be held in the US, starting from 10 July.
