A ONE-MONTH training scholarship in Tunisia has been handed to Team Nigeria’s Esther Tamaramiyebi. Her coach Regina Enofe has also been given a one-year training scholarship.
Tamaramiyebi will be representing Nigeria in rowing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
The Secretary of the Nigeria Rowing Canoe and Sailing Federation, Olubunmi Oluode, explained that the scholarship was secured through the International Olympic Committee, Nigeria Olympic Committee and the World Rowing Federation.
“This is a big boost for Nigeria’s first female home-based qualified rower and her coach,” Oluode said.
“This will give her ample opportunity to prepare well for the Olympics. The training programme will grant her access to the best rowing coaches, access to modern and the best rowing boats and other equipment.
“In addition, she will have the opportunity to train and compete with already qualified athletes from Asia and Africa.”
Oluode believes the scholarship will enhance Tamaramiyebi’s chances of excelling at the Olympics.
“This camp will also expose her to higher perfomance to boost her chances of a great outing at the Olympics,” she added.
The athlete and her coach are already in Tunis for the camping programme from where they will join Team Nigeria in Kizirazu, Japan for the final phase of training for the Olympics.
