Super Eagles goalkeeper Okoye voted Sparta Rotterdam’s Player of the Season

SUPER Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has been voted Player of the Season of Dutch club Sparta Rotterdam.

The 21-year-old Nigeria international’s award was announced on Wednesday by the Eredivisie club.

“Your player of the season: Maduka Okoye,” the club tweeted, attaching the Nigerian flag.

“Supporters of Sparta Rotterdam were given the opportunity to vote for their Player of the Season, an election that was won by Maduka Okoye,” the club stated on their official website.

Okoye played 28 Dutch top-flight games for Sparta Rotterdam last season and kept 10 clean sheets.

He received his prize on Wednesday from Henk van Stee, a former star of the club.

The club’s supporters also voted for their Goal of the Season, giving the award to Lennart Thy, for his goal in the last round against Heerenveen.

Okoye joined Sparta Rotterdam from German club Dusseldorf on a free transfer at the beginning of last season and was included in the Eredivisie XI of best players in the league.

“Happy to have been voted as @SpartaRotterdam’s Player of the Season!” he tweeted after receiving his award.
