Man United, Borussia Dortmund confirm €85m Sancho deal

MANCHESTER United and Borussia Dortmund have both announced that they have reached an agreement for the sale of Jadon Sancho.

The two clubs confirmed the deal officially on Thursday, a day after widespread reports of a breakthrough in the long-running transfer saga.

“Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached agreement in principle with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of Jadon Sancho,” the English club stated on their official website on Thursday afternoon.

“The signing is subject to contractual terms and a medical, which will be completed after Jadon’s involvement in the UEFA European Championship.”

Earlier in the day, Borussia Dortmund had confirmed the deal through their Chief Executive Officer Hans-Joachim Watzke at a press conference.

“We reached a general agreement with Manchester United on the transfer of Jadon Sancho, pending full completion, as there are still some formalities to agree on and the medical check to be completed,” Watzke said.

Dortmund noted that they will receive a total of €85 million from Manchester United, with no conditional add-ons in the deal.

Sancho was poised to join Manchester United last year but the clubs did not reach an agreement on the transfer fee, with Dortmund holding out for around £110m.

Former Manchester City youngster Sancho, 21, is currently in the England squad at the European Championship.

Sancho, who began his career at Watford’s academy before joining Manchester City in 2015, scored 15 goals and made 20 assists in 38 appearances for Dortmund last season.

He joined the German club in 2017 after declining the offer of a new contract at Manchester City and has scored 50 goals in 137 appearances for Dortmund.
