PARIS Saint-Germain have signed Sergio Ramos, the French club announced on Thursday.
Ramos was released by Real Madrid in June after 16 years at the Spanish giants, and he has joined big-spending PSG as a free agent.
“Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to announce the arrival of Sergio Ramos to the squad,” the Ligue 1 side stated.
“The Spanish central defender has signed a two-year contract and is tied to the club from the French capital until 30 June 2023.”
Spain international centre-back Ramos, 35, started out professionally with Sevilla in the 2003 season after emerging from the club’s youth academy and joined Real Madrid 2005.
In his 16 seasons with Real Madrid, Ramos emerged as one of the world’s best players, scoring 101 goals in 671 matches and winning four UEFA Champions Leagues between 2014 and 2018, and five La Liga crowns (2007, 2008, 2012, 2017 and 2020).
Ramos also won thee World Cup in 2010 and two UEFA European Championship titles in 2008 and 2012 with Spain.
Currently, he is Spain’s and Europe’s most-capped player of all time with 180 appearances for his national team (23 goals), although he was left out of the Euro 2020 squad after a season affected by injury.
“I am very happy to join Paris Saint-Germain,” Ramos said after signing his contract.
“This is a big change in my life, a new challenge and it’s a day I will never forget. I am very proud to be a part of this ambitious project, to be a part of this squad with so many great players.
“Paris Saint-Germain is a club that has already proven itself at the highest level. I want to continue to grow and improve at Paris and help the team to win as many trophies as possible.”
Ramos joins Achraf Hakimi, Giorgio Wijnaldum and Gianluigi Donnarumma as new high-profile players at PSG.
