THE Nigeria Basketball Federation has expressed its sadness over the death of Sound Sultan.

The singer, songwriter, rapper and actor’s sad passing was announced by his family on Sunday.

Sound Sultan, real name Olanrewaju Fasasi, died of angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma a rare form of cancer that affects the lymph, according to the announcement made by his family.

He was aged 44.

“We are sorry Sound Sultan,” the NBBF tweeted.

“You tried your best. Nigerian basketball will miss you. Your men at Rowe Park will miss you. Rest in peace.”

Sound Sultan was an avid basketball lover who played and invested in the game.

He is hugely popular in Lagos basketball circles and his death hit the game’s family hard, especially just hours after celebrating Nigeria’s historic win over the United States of America in a pre-Olympic Games exhibition game in Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, three children and his siblings.
