THE Ministry of Finance has approved the final waiver for the Olympics kit meant for Nigeria’s male basket ball team, D’Tigers, paving the way for the release by customs any time from now.
The kits have been held up at the Lagos seaport by customs over a N32m fee but a waiver has now been granted.
The ministers of finance and sports worked to ensure the documentation needed for the waiver to be secured, sports ministry people claimed on Wednesday.
“The Minister of Finance has signed the waiver and what remains is for the customs to release the basketball kits upon presentation of the waiver to the NBBF so that our team can enjoy the uniforms donated by Peak,” a sports ministry official said.
“The ministry has been working on this for weeks and happy that things are moving along now.”
The sports ministry insists that the Nigeria Basketball Federation has enjoyed the financial support of government for many years and this Olympic year is no different.
