SUPER Eagles defender Leon Balogun was on the scoresheet on Saturday during Rangers’ 2-2 draw with Arsenal.
The pre-season friendly was held at Rangers’ home ground Ibrox, and Arsenal had to come from behind twice to earn the draw.
Cedric Itten scored Rangers’ other goal, while new buy Nuno Tavares and striker Eddie Nketiah netted for Arsenal.
Nigerian international Balogun gave the hosts the lead in the 14th minute with a thumping header, but Arsenal responded nine minutes later through Tavares, the 21-year-old left-back Arsenal bought from Benfica last week.
The first half ended all-square and both sides made several changes at half-time.
Two of Arsenal’s changes involved players with Nigerian heritage going off.
Goalkeeper Arthur Nwankwo, who was making only his second senior appearance, and striker Folarin Balogun were replaced by Karl Hein and Alexandre Lacazette respectively.
Hector Bellerin, Kieran Tierney and Callum Chambers were also brought in at the beginning of the second half as Arsenal sought to win the game.
Rangers also made three changes at the break, with scorer Balogun one of those replaced.
It was however the hosts who took the lead again as substitute Itten struck in the 75th minute with another headed goal.
Arsenal needed a substitute of their own to pull them level as Nketiah, who replaced Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the 62nd minute, equalised in the 83rd minute.
Rangers’ other Super Eagles star, Joe Aribo, was not involved.
The match was Arsenal’s second pre-season friendly in Scotland after their 2-1 defeat to Hibernian.
