ACTIVIST Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho has reportedly been arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic after being declared wanted by the Department of State Services.
The Yoruba Nation agitator was said to have been apprehended by local police on Monday night at an airport in Cotonou. He was reportedly heading for Germany, according to Punch newspaper.
A source quoted by the newspaper said, “He was arrested in Cotonou while he tried to travel out on Monday night. His destination was Germany. The security forces in Benin Republic should repatriate him to Nigeria on Tuesday.”
The activist is wanted for allegedly stockpiling arms after security forces raided his residence in the Soka area of Ibadan on July 1. Twelve of his aides were arrested while two were killed in a gun duel.
Sunday Igboho had denied the allegations levied against him.
The Federal Government recently raised alarm that the activist was trying to obtain a fake passport in order to leave the country.
DSS Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunnaya, had advised Igboho to turn himself in to the nearest security.
“Those cheering and eulogising him may appeal to or advice him to do the needful,” Afunnaya said.
“He should surrender himself to the appropriate authorities. He or anyone can never be above the law.”
