I am just 24 years old with a 2 year old son. Unlike some of my friends who are older than me and have more children than I do, my breasts have started to sag. Kindly let me know what to make them go up again.

Women generally dread sagging breasts especially, when they are young because firm and perky breasts are good for their posture and self-image. At 24 after weaning a 2 year old child, it is not unusual for your breasts to sag albeit moderately.  What is not acceptable is an excessive sagging.  Other factors that may lead to breast sagging include; excessive weight gain and loss, excessive smoking, alcohol intake, the use of non prescribed drugs as well as multiple and frequent sex partners.  To firm up sagging breasts, massage with olive oil, apply aloe vera gel, and moisturize your breasts. Try chest exercises like push-ups, barbell press, and dumbbell chest press to strengthen your chest muscles. Quit smoking to prevent elastin and collagen breakdown in breast skin. Also, clean up on any adverse life style habit you may be involved in. And most importantly, get the right bras for general wear and for working out

I have epileptic seizures

I am a 19 year old student. My problem is that I have had Epileptic Seizures for over a year now. I have tried all types of medications (herbal and pills) all to no avail.  Kindly help me.

Since there are different kinds of seizures, you must have seen a doctor to know that what you have is actually Epileptic Seizures. After you’re diagnosed with epilepsy, you have several ways to get treatment. Medication, a special diet, an implant that works on your nerves or brain, and surgery could all help you feel better. Many doctors usually try medications first. The goal of treatment in patients with epileptic seizures is to achieve a seizure-free status without adverse effects. This goal is accomplished in more than 60% of patients who require treatment with anticonvulsants. Many patients experience adverse effects from these drugs, however, and some patients have seizures that are refractory to medical therapy. This is why you need to see a Specialist Physician who will review your case and place you on an appropriate treatment.

I want a shorter menstrual period

I need your help so that my period can last three days only instead of the current five days. All my friends claim that their own periods only last for three days. Then why is my own like that?

       — Chi-chi (by E Mail)

Normal menstruation can last from one to seven days, although for most women with regular menstrual cycles, their period lasts an average of three to five days. It’s important to note that nothing is wrong if your period is a couple of days longer or shorter than the average three to five days. In other words, your period is unique to you and the amount you bleed and the number of days will not be the same as everyone else. In addition, your period can vary a bit from cycle to cycle and this is normal. Sometimes, though, lifestyle changes, birth control methods, and certain medical problems can affect your period more significantly.

Gunshot wounds and the police

I am a Medical Doctor in General Practice. Once in a while I come across patients who report with gun- shot wounds as a result of armed robbery attacks. I usually refer them without treatment out of fear of been arrested by the Police. However, a colleague recently informed me that doctors can treat gun -shot wounds. Kindly educate me on the current position of the Law regarding treatment of gun- shot wounds. Do I need a Police Clearance before treating a case of gun shot?

 — Dr Tony (by SMS)

According to Section 1 of the Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Act 2017, all hospitals in Nigeria shall accept and treat without a police clearance any person with a gunshot wound. In the same section, the law provides that all victims with gunshot wounds shall be treated without a request for initial monetary deposits and such persons shall not be victims of any inhuman or degrading treatment.  Furthermore, a hospital that receives any person with a gunshot wound is enjoined to make a report to the nearest police station within 2 hours of treatment, failure to do this attracts a fine of N100,000 and every doctor concerned with the treatment is liable on conviction to a fine of N100,000 or 6 months imprisonment  or both.

Is Ponmo dangerous for my health?

I love eating Ponmo (Dried Cow hide ). Unfortunately, I recently read that the delicacy is harmful as it contains some dangerous chemicals. Kindly help me to clarify.

— Badmus (by SMS)

The raw form of Ponmo (Processed Cow Hide and Skin and eaten as ‘meat’) is usually processed through burning with car tires, petrol and diesel. Through this method, some harmful chemicals may be introduced to the Ponmo thus making it dangerous to health.  However, Ponmo that is not processed in the above named way remains safe and not dangerous to health.
