TAMMY Abraham scored a second-half goal on Sunday as Chelsea defeated Arsenal 2-1 in a pre-season friendly match at the Emirates Stadium.

The England striker born to Nigerian parents boosted his chances of finding favour with Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel by netting in the 79th minute after Arsenal had drawn level from an early setback.

Coincidentally, Abraham, who had severely limited playing time last season, has been linked with fellow Londoners Arsenal.

Kai Havertz gave European champions Chelsea the lead in the 27th minute but Granit Xhaka responded for the hosts with a 69th-minute equaliser.

Both sides made wholesale changes in the second half as they continued their preparation for the new Premier League season, which kicks off in two weeks.

Arsenal’s young Nigerian goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo and Brazilian forward Willian are two of the few players who did not get off the bench.
