THERE were four Nigerian players involved on Wednesday when Watford defeated Doncaster Rovers in a pre-season friendly match.

New Nigerian signings Oghenekaro Etebo and Emmanuel Dennis, as well as William Troost-Ekong and Tom Dele-Bashiru all contributed to the win for the promoted Premier League side.

Etebo, who joined Watford on loan from Stoke City in July, scored on of the Hornets’ goals against the third-tier side.

Along with Etebo,Troy Deeney, Dan Gosling and Ashley Fletcher also struck for Watford.
Super Eagles midfielder Etebo shot Watford ahead in the fifth minute, rifling a fierce strike into the top corner.

Super Eagles centre-back Troost-Ekong was also on from the start, helping Watford keep a clean sheet.

All the outfield players who started the game for Watford were substituted at half-time as 10 new players started the second half, including former Flying Eagles midfielder Dele-Bashiru and Super Eagles forward Dennis.

However, Dennis, who joined Watford from Club Brugge for €4m in July, was injured soon after getting on the pitch.

He was withdrawn as a precaution following an injury 12 minutes into his introduction and replaced by a trialist.

Watford regained promotion to the Premier League in May, one season after getting relegated.
