FAITH Chepngetich Kipyegon of Kenya stormed to women’s 1,500m gold in Tokyo on Friday and also set an Olympic record.

She won the final in 3 minutes, 53.11 seconds to smash the record of 3:53.96 set by Paula Ivan at the Seoul ’88 Games.

Great Britain’s Laura Muir won silver in a new national record time of 3.54.50, and Netherlands’ Sifan Hassan claimed the bronze medal in 3.55.86.

In the women’s 400m final, Shaunae Miller-Uibo of Bahamas won gold in 48.36 seconds, followed by Dominica Republic’s Marileidy Paulino in second place 49.20s while USA’s Allyson Felix won bronze in 49.46.

Felix’s bronze medal makes her the most decorated female athlete in track and field history with 10 medals won across five Olympic campaigns.

The 35-year-old American star was competing in her last Olympics in Tokyo.

Miller-Uibo’s win came 24 hours after the Bahamas’ Gardiner had won the men’s 400m gold on Thursday.
