GOVERNOR Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi yesterday swore-in Stella Ekweremadu, widow of the late Commissioner for Transport, Matthias Ekweremadu, and four others as commissioners in the State Civil Service Commission.
Matthias, the younger brother of former Deputy Senate President Senator Ike Ekweremadu died in active service in February while still a commissioner.
Other members of the commission are Eucharia Offor, Nathaniel Anike and Joy Odike, while Robinson Odo, a retired permanent secretary, is the chairman.
In a brief remark, Ugwuanyi urged the commissioners to be honest, transparent, accountable, fair, just and committed in the discharge of the commission’s mandate.
According to him, they are expected to midwife a skilled, competent and disciplined workforce that will ensure the attainment of service delivery goals of the administration through merit, skill and character driven recruitment.
He said the commissioners were recommended for the job by their enviable track records, competencies and training.
The governor also swore-in commissioners in the reconstituted Enugu State Local Government Service Commission with professor of political science and renowned consultant, Prof. Osy Okanya, as the chairman.
Other members are Rodrick Ugwu, Peter Nnaji, Florence Igboji and Eugene Odo.
Ugwuanyi urged the commissioners to evolve an effective means to deal with the high level of absenteeism and truancy among local government workers.
