NIGERIA slipped in the latest FIFA ranking by two places, according to the ratings released by the world governing body on Thursday.
The Super Eagles were 32nd in the world in May when the last ranking was released but they fell to 34th in August.
In between the ranking change, the Super Eagles played three friendlies against Cameroon and Mexico, losing two and drawing one.
Gernot Rohr’s team also lost seven ranking points, dropping from 1,487 to 1,480.
Cameroon, who beat Nigeria in one of two friendlies in June and drew the other one, moved up one spot from 55th to 54th, gaining six points (from 1,405 to 1,411).
Liberia and Cape Verde, who the Super Eagles will face in Qatar 2022 qualifiers in September, had contrasting fortunes.
The Lone Star of Liberia climbed up from 151st to 150th in the world, while Cape Verde dropped four places from 73rd to 77th.
The Super Eagles remain the fifth best team in Africa, with Senegal the continent’s top side and 21st in the world.
Tunisia (28th in the world), Algeria (30th in the world) and Morocco (32nd in the world) are second, third and fourth in Africa.
Belgium retain their top spot despite not going past the quarter-finals of the European Championship in July, while champions Italy moved up two spots into the top 5, just behind runners-up England in fourth position.
Some of the biggest climbers include United States who moved up 10 places to No.10, Qatar (moved up 16 spots to 42nd) and Sierra Leone (up eight spots to 106th).
