SEVERAL Nigerian players were the heroes for their clubs across European leagues and pre-season games on Saturday.

In Italy, Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen opened the scoring in Napoli’s 4-0 friendly win over lower league side Pescara.

He struck in the ninth minute to take his pre-season tally to six goals one week before the Serie A season kicks off.

In Belgium, last season’s top scorer with 33 goals from 38 appearances Paul Onuachu got his second goal of the current Pro League campaign in Genk’s 4-0 win over Oud-Heverlee Leuven.

The Super Eagles striker scored Genk’s second goal of the match and his third in all competitions from six matches this season.

The other Nigeria striker at Genk, Cyril Dessers, was an unused substitute.

In Germany, former Nigeria youth international Taiwo Awoniyi marked his first game as a permanent signing of Union Berlin with their only goal in the 1-1 home draw with Bayer Leverkusen on the opening matchday of the new Bundesliga season.

Awoniyi joined Union Berlin on a permanent basis from Liverpool in July after spending last season on loan at the German club.

In Turkey, Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa scored on his competitive debut for his new club Fatih Karagumuruk.

Musa, who started and played the full match, struck Karagumuruk’s third goal in the 90th minute in their 3-2 Turkish Super Lig home win over Gaziantep FK.
