TEAM Nigeria increased their medal haul to three at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics on Saturday.

Having won their first gold medal through women’s powerlifter Latifat Tijani on Thursday, Team Nigeria had a quiet Friday.

However, Saturday has proved to be productive, with two more medals from women’s powerlifting.

In the women’s -61kg category, Nigeria’s Lucy Ejike finished third to claim the bronze medal.

She lifted 130kg, the same weight as Ruza Kuzieva, but the Uzbekistan athlete got silver on countback.

Mexico’s Amalia Perez lifted 131kg to top the podium with the gold medal.

Nigeria’s second medal of the day was also a bronze, as Olaitan Ibrahim finished third in the -67kg category with her lift of 119kg.

Yujiao Tan of China claimed gold with a winning lift of 133kg, while Egypt’s Fatma Omar won silver with 120kg.

In rowing, Nigeria’s Kingsley Ijomah competed in Repechage 1 of men’s singles sculls for a chance to compete in the final on Sunday.

Ijomah, the first African male athlete to qualify for rowing at the Paralympics, finished fifth in 11:15.07, and will now compete in the B final with no shot at a medal.
