SUPER Eagles defender Semi Ajayi was the hero for West Brom on Saturday night in their 1-0 win over Peterborough United.

The Nigeria centre-back, making his first start of the season and fourth appearance, scored in injury-time to hand West Brom victory and take them to joint-top of the Championship with 13 points from five matches.

He was named the official man of the match for his goal and general performance in helping the defence keep a clean sheet.

Also on Saturday night in Italy, Nigerian midfielder Kingsley Michael made his second ever Serie A appearance and his first this season for Bologna in their 0-0 draw at Atalanta.

Michael, 22, played in central midfield for 60 minutes before making way for Emanuel Vignato as Bologna claimed a famous point.

Also in Italy, Super Eagles defender Ola Aina made his second Serie A appearance this new season for Torino in their 2-1 defeat at Fiorentina, the Turin club’s second straight defeat.

Former Chelsea player Aina was yellow carded in the 80th minute and substituted off for Cristian Ansaldi a minute later.

In France, Super Eagles forward Samuel Kalu was a 46th minute substitute for Issouf Sissokho as Bordeaux suffered their second defeat of the season in four Ligue 1 fixtures.

Kalu and his side were battered 4-0 by Nice, leaving them without a win so far this season, and with just two points from four matches.

In the Netherlands, Super Eagles first-choice goalkeeper Maduka Okoye was beaten twice as his side Sparta Rotterdam lost 2-0 to Nigerian goalkeeping great Peter Rufai’s former club Go Ahead Eagles.

Sparta Rotterdam have now lost both of their Dutch top flight fixtures this season, with Okoye conceding six goals in the process.
