Four Nigerian referees to handle Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifier

NIGERIAN officials will be taking charge of a crucial Qatar 2022 qualifying match on Sunday.

Four international referees from the country are at the centre of the African Group E qualifying clash between Rwanda and Kenya in Kigali on Sunday.

Joseph Ogabor, Samuel Pwadutakam, Mimisen Iyorhe and Quadri Adebimpe will officiate the encounter between the East African rivals.

Dr Ogabor, a University of Calabar lecturer, is the centre referee, while Adamawa’s Pwadutakam is the Assistant Referee 1, and one of the Confedaration of African Football’s top women referees Iyorhe from Benue is the Assistant Referee 2.

Lagos-based Quadri is the fourth official, while a retired FIFA referee from Libya Sharfeddin Essam Ibrahim is the assessor and Marcao Jose Fernando of Angola is the match commissioner.

The president of the Nigeria Referees Association Tade Azeez is pleased his compatriots are making big strides as match officials, according to Kelechi Mejuobi, the association’s publicity secretary.

Rwanda are bottom of Group E after losing their opening match away to Mali on Wednesday.

Kenya are joint-second after their 0-0 home draw with Uganda on Thursday.
