LIBERIA got their first points of the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers with a 1-0 home win over Central African Republic on Monday.

Kpah Sherman scored in the 86th minute to secure victory for the Lone Star in the African qualifying Group C clash.

Three days earlier, the Liberians lost 2-0 to Nigeria, with Kelechi Iheanacho scoring both goals at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.

The Lone Star have gone up to second spot in the group with three points from two matches, behind the Super Eagles who also have three points but from one match and with a superior goal difference.

Nigeria are away to Cape Verde on Tuesday and have a chance of opening up a significant gap in the table after the first two matchdays.

In another African World Cup qualifier on Monday, South Africa defeated Ghana 1-0 in Johannesburg to go top of Group G.

Bongokuhle Hlongwane scored the fixture’s only goal in the 83rd minute to give Bafana Bafana their first win of the campaign.

South Africa, who drew their first game away to Zimbabwe last week, now have four points, while Ghana have three following last week’s 1-0 home win over Ethiopia.
