Osimhen free to face Juventus as Napoli win two-match ban appeal

NAPOLI have won their appeal with the Italian authorities to reduce Victor Osimhen’s two-match ban, according to Football Italia.

The Nigeria international will now be able to face Juventus in the big Serie A clash on Saturday.

The Super Eagles striker was sent off for hitting out at Venezia player Daan Heymans during the opening game of the season.

The Nigerian, who is currently on international duty with the Super Eagles in the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers, was initially banned for two matches.

The suspension would have ruled Osimhen out of the Serie A fixtures against Genoa and Juventus, but he is now free to face the Old Lady.

Napoli had confidence their appeal to reduce the ban would be successful and they were proven right on Tuesday when it was cut down to one match.

Napoli had argued that the Nigeria international lashed out in reaction to Heymans and did not ‘punch’ the player as was claimed by the original disciplinary commission report.

Napoli have started the Serie A campaign brightly, winning their first two matches, while Juventus have struggled, with just one point from two games.
