THREE Nigerian stars were in Premier League action for Leicester City on Sunday as they lost 2-1 to Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

While Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi was in the starting line-up, his compatriots Kelechi Iheanacho and Ademola Lookman were second-half substitutes.

Lookman came on at the start of the second half to replace James Maddison, and Iheanacho played the final 15 minutes in place of Boubakaray Soumane as Leicester City chased the game.

Neil Maupsy gave hosts Brighton the lead from the penalty spot in the 35th minute and Danny Welbeck doubled their lead five minutes after the restart.

Jamie Vardy pulled one back for Leicester City in the 61st minute but Brighton held on for their fourth win of the season that took them up to third place in the table.

Leicester City dropped to 12th with just six points from their first five fixtures.

In the other Premier League match that kicked off at the same time as the Amex clash, Manchester United claimed a dramatic 2-1 win over West Ham at the London Stadium.

Algeria forward Said Benrahma’s deflected shot handed West Ham the lead in the 30th minute.

Manchester United however responded quickly, Cristiano Ronaldo slotting home from two metres five minutes later for his fourth goal in three matches since he returned to the club.

Ronaldo then had three penalty claims denied by referee Martin Atkinson, two of them looking like legitimate shouts.

Substitute Jesse Lingard, who was on loan at West Ham last season, then scored a brilliant 89th minute goal to shoot Manchester United ahead.

It turned out to be the winning goal, but West Ham missed a golden chance to equalise in the fifth minute of added time.

A penalty was awarded to them for a Luke Shaw handball and manager David Moyes brought penalty specialist Mark Noble on to take the kick
Noble’s penalty was saved by David De Gea though and United went up to second place in the table with 13 points from five games.

West Ham are eighth with eight points.
