D’TIGRESS continued their quest for a Women’s AfroBasket ‘three-peat’ on Monday night with a comfortable win over Angola in Yaounde, Cameroon.

The Nigerian ladies, who won the African title in 2017 and 2019, beat Angola 85-65 to ease to the quarter-finals, having also won their first game against Mozambique.

The champions showed their intent early in the game, dominating the first quarter with a 31-18 score.

They did not let up in the second quarter, which they won 21-10 to take a 52-28 half-time lead.

With a 24-point cushion, D’Tigress could afford to ease things off a litte in the final two quarters, and they did.

They won the third quarter 19-15 and tied the fourth 18-18 to claim a 20-point win.

Despite their defeat, Angola’s Italee Lucas stood out by scoring a game-high 19 points as well as five assists, while her teammate Nadir Manuel also led the game in rebounds with 10.

Nigeria’s top performer was Nicole Enabosi with nine points and five rebounds, while Ezinne Kalu led D’Tigress in scoring with 12 points.

D’Tigress are seeking to become the first team to win three straight AfroBasket titles since the 1980s.
