EITHER Liverpool or Manchester City would have gone to the top of the Premier League table on Sunday with a win but they settled for a pulsating 2-2 draw at Anfield.

Hosts Liverpool led twice in a frenetic, end-to-end second half but champions Manchester City equalised each time to snatch a share of the points.

Senegal forward Sadio Mane and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah scored Liverpool’s goals while Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne netted for City.

After utterly dominating the first half but without crowning it with a goal, Manchester City fell behind in the 14th minute of the second half when Mane finished off Salah’s smart pass.

City responded 10 minutes later as young England forward Foden struck a fierce left-foot shot across Alisson Becker in the Liverpool goal.

The hosts took the lead again with a magical strike from Salah.

The Egyptian picked the ball up wide on the right and floated past several City challenges before slotting in beyond Ederson at the far post with 14 minutes left on the clock.

The time left was enough for City to equalise again as De Bruyne’s shot from the edge of the Liverpool box was deflected past Alisson in the 81st minute.

The draw leaves Liverpool as the only unbeaten side in the Premier League so far this season and the Reds are second in the table with 15 points, one behind leaders Chelsea.

Manchester City are third with 14 points, the same as fourth-placed neighbours United.
