CRISTIANO Ronaldo and Mikel Arteta have been named Premier League Player and Manager of the Month for September.Manchester United forward Ronaldo won the player award ahead of Liverpool’s Egyptian star Mohamed Salah and four other stars.
The 36-year-old has won the award for the fifth time in his two spells in the Premier League, matching Wayne Rooney’s tally among Manchester United players.
The Portugal captain made an instant impact on his return to Manchester United, scoring three goals in as many Premier League matches after returning to Old Trafford from Juventus.
It is his first award since March 2008, and that gap of more than 13 years between Player of the Month prizes is the longest in Premier League history.
Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo, Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger, Newcastle United’s Allan Saint-Maximin and Watford’s Ismaila Sarr were also nominated along with Ronaldo and Salah.
In the manager category, Arteta won the prize after guiding Arsenal to an unbeaten September in an impressive turnaround.
It is the 39-year-old Spaniard’s first time of winning the award after he led the Gunners to wins in all three matches they played in September, following three straight defeats in August.
Arteta won the award ahead of a cast of accomplished managers including Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola and Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp.
Brighton’s Graham Potter and Aston Villa’s Dean Smith were also nominated as Arteta won after votes from the public were combined with those of a panel of football experts.
