BARCELONA have named a temporary replacement for Ronald Koeman after sacking the Dutchman on Wednesday night.
Koeman, a playing legend for the club, was fired after the 1-0 LaLiga defeat at Rayo Vallecano, which left the Spanish giants in ninth place.
“Barcelona hereby announces that Sergi Barjuan, the current coach of Barça B, shall be taking provisional charge of the technical management of the senior squad,” the club announced on Thursday.
“His interim position as first-team head coach shall end as soon as the club has hired full-time head coach to replace the dismissed Ronald Koeman.”
Meanwhile, there are multiple reports that Barcelona have identified another legend Xavi as the permanent replacement for Koeman.
The former Barca midfielder, 41, has enjoyed success as head coach of Qatari club Al Sadd.
He has won seven trophies with the club, including the 2020/2021 Qatari Star League title.
Xavi spent 17 years at Barcelona, making 505 appearances and winning eight LaLiga titles and four UEFA Champions League trophies, as well as three Copa Del Reys and two FIFA Club World Cups.
He left in 2015 for Al Sadd where he ended his playing career with the Qatar Stars League title in 2018/2019 before coaching the club.
