NIGERIA comedian and skit maker, Taaooma, has tendered an unreserved apology over her visit to the Vice President alongside other skit makers.
Naijatimes had earlier reported that a delegation of young Nigerian (comedy) Skit Industry practitioners met with the Vice President at the Presidential Villa Abuja on Wednesday, 3rd November 2021.
This generated several reactions online as netizens lambasted Taaooma, Josh2funny, Woli Agba, Mr Hyenana and others present at the meeting, alleging they collected brown envelopes from the Vice President.
Activist Rinu also joined other in condemning the skit makers for visiting the Vice President for their gain.
Taaoma in a swift reaction via Twitter clarified the purpose of their visit in a lengthy post.
The skit maker said she had not wanted to honour the invitation like others but changed her mind after seeing it as an opportunity to share some hot issues affecting the youths.
According to Taaoma, it is unfortunate that they all could not record anything that happened at the State House because their electronic devices were all collected from them after many security checks.
While apologising for all that happened due to the issue, Taaoma added that she achieved her aims when she spoke to the Vice president about those issues affecting the youths and was shocked as it wasn’t his expectation.
She wrote: “Hey Rinu, I was going to wallow in my shame and keep mute. But the way it’s going, it seems the wound will keep getting deep. The organisers of the skit awards need more publicity for the event, secured a meet with the VP and invited so many skit makers.
I also declined at first as many others. But then, at the die minute, I gave it a rethink: What if I pull a Trojan? Gain access to the statehouse with this skit award thingy and say my mind on hot issues. unfortunately for us, after passing through many security checks all our electronic devices were collected.
I couldn’t even go live or record videos. All I did was do what others didn’t want to. And trust me, the VP himself was shocked when I started speaking about those issues as that wasn’t his expectations. I’m really sorry if I have offended anyone by going that way but I achieved my aim.
I said all I could straight to the VP. The VP’s media team were in charge of photos and videos. I might have fully declined if I knew that I won’t be able to go in with my camera or phone. The pictures were taken after were sent to the skit awards pr team.
That’s why the photos went out before we got our own hands on it. I started getting tags and some even said I was being called out. My plan was to get the video as so as it’s ready and post it. But I had no choice but to immediately post the available photo and state what happened at the meeting.
I hope when the video is ready, everyone will know I’m saying nothing but the truth and my conscience is clear. once again, I apologize deeply to everyone who felt disappointed.”
