LIVING in the jungle no doubt can be tricky, as it takes a toll on whoever finds him or herself in it, especially when such an individual is handicapped with limited supplies of the basic necessities of life — food, water, clothing, shelter.
This is the exact situation at the ongoing Gulder Ultimate Search season 12 (GUS 12), as the Amo Clan lost their team lead, Emmanuel Nnebe, after a disappointing performance of their task, ‘Rope-A-Dope’ in Amorokin.
The day had started with Solomon Yankari, a 26-year old fitness instructor from Bauchi, leading the 15 warriors still in camp after the last eviction in a workout exercise. After the workout drill, Odudu Ime Out, who seemed to have dreamt of Nigerian jollof rice, got on with the task of making the delicacy.
This came with an exchange of harsh words between Tobechukwu Okoye and chef Odudu, as the former poured back into the pot the hot rice dished to him. The warrior thereafter filed out for the day’s task at the place of the ring.

With the briefs about the task given by the fierce looking and tough talking anchor, Toke Makinwa, the warriors hit the ground running. Each clan was expected to designate three members of their clan to the rope, hook themselves to it and untangle the rope ahead of them.
At the completion of this first phase of the task, they are to proceed to the second phase, which is the second beam, where they are expected to find a ring, which they are firmly to the hook.
With the ring secured, they are to journey down to the slay, where they are to attach the ring to it before pulling to the work station where they solve the puzzle in the slay.
The Irin clan, which had narrowly lost the previous task to the Iroko clan, won the task, while the Amo clan suffered yet another loss, which came with a consequence.
At the place of the talking drum, the anchor, Toke, who is the custodian mouthpiece of the council of elders, gave them a hint of what they should have observed during the task.
According to her each wooden piece was numbered, and their corresponding spots were numbered too. She added that if they had carefully observed, they would have had an easy run during their task.
A member of the clan, Tosin, complained that his opinions were ignored and he felt alienated. Emmanuel tried to justify making Jennifer the engineer as the team lead, but it all seemed like an excuse, as Toke pointed out that the clan had a teamwork problem, which led to their failure.
Toke asked each member of the Amo Clan, who were already depleted in number to write down what was missing in the task, which Emmanuel could not answer correctly, and he was evicted from the show.
Samuel Ishmael and Jennifer Okorie didn’t identify what was missing correctly but they at least wrote something down. In another twist, Iniabasi Umoren was also evicted from the show, as he was unable to write down anything.
Osasere was able to identify what was missing – the letter S. On the puzzle board, the clans spelt ‘Craftmanship’ instead of ‘Craftsmanship’. Meanwhile, the clan was given the opportunity to select one person from another clan to join their clan and they all chose Damola Johnson, a 26-year-old film director from Lagos.
The GUS season 12, which started running from October 16, and broadcast on Saturdays and Sundays on Africa Magic Showcase, Urban, and Family respectively from 8pm – 9pm, will be on air up until December 19, 2021. The prize money for the season is N50 million.
