NIGERIA Football Federation President Amaju Pinnick has appealed to the Super Eagles not to let down their compatriots on Saturday.
The national team face the Lone Star of Liberia in a Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifier in Tangier, Morocco on Saturday, needing a win to stay on top of African Group C.
Speaking to the players after Friday’s official training at the Grand Stade de Tangier where the match will be held, Pinnick charged the players to work as a team to earn the victory that would lift the pressure off their shoulders going into the final group phase encounter against Cape Verde in Lagos on Tuesday.
“I have seen the training and I am impressed by the level of seriousness, fitness and commitment,” Pinnick said.
“The spirit is great and I believe you will do the job tomorrow. Let us leave very little room for mistakes; in fact, no room for errors at all. I don’t need to start telling you how much Nigerians from all walks of life are looking forward to you picking up the three points here.
“The three points are important and we should put them in our bags as we fly back to Nigeria tomorrow night.”
Pinnick, who is also a FIFA Council member, addressed the players after another training session.
He was joined by NFF second Vice President Shehu Dikko, Chairman of Technical Committee Ahmed Yusuf, Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu of the NFF Executive Committee and NFF Technical Director Augustine Eguavoen, who is an ex-international.
The Super Eagles lead African qualifying Group C with nine points from four matches, with Cape Verde second two points behind.
Victory for Nigeria against Liberia and failure by Cape Verde to beat Central African Republic in Mindelo also on Saturday would send the Super Eagles to the final round playoffs of the qualifiers.
