SPORTS minister Sunday Dare has congratulated the Super Eagles for their 2-0 win over ‘hosts’ Liberia in Saturday’s 2022 World Cup qualifier in Tangier, Morocco.
Nigeria defeated the Lone Star to stay on top of African qualifying Group C and edge closer to the final round of the World Cup qualifiers.
Victor Osimhen and Ahmed Musa converted two penalties to hand Gernot Rohr’s side the hard-earned victory.
“Winning away from home should boost your morale ahead of the all-important clash against Cape Verde on Tuesday,” Dare said moments after Saturday’s victory.
“I congratulate the entire team for the professional performance.”Let us keep the focus. Let us finish the job in Lagos on Tuesday. We are 100% behind you.”
Cape Verde also defeated Central African Republic on Saturday to stay within two points of Nigeria in the group.
The Super Eagles host Cape Verde in Lagos on Tuesday with the ticket for the playoffs at stake.
A draw is enough to see the Super Eagles through to the playoffs while Cape Verde must win to advance.
In their first meeting in September, the Super Eagles came from behind to beat Cape Verde 2-1 in Mindelo.
