REDEPLOYMENT looms in the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), and Frank Mba, current Police Force Public Relations Officer is likely to be affected by the development Naija Times has learned.
According to a source, Mba, a lawyer and presently a Commissioner of Police in charge of Public Relations, Force Headquarters Abuja is expected to step down from the position.
The source also told Naija Times that the imminent re-deployment is a standard procedure carried out at the discretion of the Inspector General of Police when police officers are promoted, adding that re-deployment takes immediate effect.
Mba, who is currently on international training alongside other top officers of the Force, including Abdulrasheed Bawa, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), is expected to be re-deployed once he returns from the training.
“The course is typically for senior officers, and once they complete it, they are automatically redeployed. Mba on his part is long overdue since his promotion to the rank Commissioner,” the source claimed.
The one-time PPRO of Lagos Command was promoted from the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) to Commissioner (CP) by the immediate past Inspector General of the Police, Mohammed Adamu on December 30, 2020.
Naija Times gathered that the soft talking officer before quitting the office is scheduled to step down from his current position before the end of this month after what would be considered a meritorious service.
Mba studied law at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2002. He obtained his Master’s Degree in Law from the University of Dundee, Scotland.
A national and international security certificate holder including Harvard University, USA; Mba is also a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy, Quantico – USA.
He has also attended some law enforcement training, both within and outside Nigeria. These include: Countering Violent Extremism and Police Leadership Course at the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA), Roswell, New Mexico, USA (2018); Strategic Leadership and Command Course, Police Staff College, Jos (2017); Crisis and Disaster Management Course, Israel (2013) and Managing the Media in Crisis Situations, School of Media and Communications, Pan Atlantic University, Lagos (2013).
Others are US-sponsored International Visitor Leadership Program, with special focus on International Crime Issues, Washington DC (2010); General Criminal Investigation Course at the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA), Botswana (2009) and Middle Management Course on Global Peace Operations in Vicenza, Italy (2008).
Mba was a member of the Nigeria Police Contingent to the United Nations Peace-Keeping Mission in Liberia between 2006 and 2007. He joined the Nigerian Police Force in 1993 as a Cadet Inspector, and has held different positions with excellent records to which he has been rewarded with corresponding promotions in this order: Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) – 1999, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) – 2003, Superintendent of Police (SP) – 2006, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) – 2012, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) – 2019 and Commissioner of Police (CP) – 2020
Meanwhile, rumours are rife that the Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State-born officer had strategically lobbied to be assigned to Lagos but his request was turned down by the Police authority due to his career trajectory with the state.
