Enyimba request for postponement of Confed Cup clash against Ittihad

ENYIMBA have asked the Confederation of African Football to shift their Confederation Cup fixture with Libya’s Al Ittihad.

The Nigerian side said they received notice of the rescheduled tie too late and have not been able to make travel arrangements.

The fixture was initially scheduled to be the first leg of the playoffs, but it was cancelled after Enyimba had problems reaching Tunisia, where it was billed to be held.
What was originally meant to be the second leg was then held in ABA, with Enyimba winning 2-0.

“Enyimba FC has received the decision of the CAF Appeals Committee, maintaining that the Confederation Cup fixture against Al Ittihad be played in Benghazi, Libya this Sunday,” the two-time African champions stated on their official website on Friday.

“In the spirit of sportsmanship and for the integrity of the competition, the club has elected to accept the decision. However, considering the brevity of time to the fixture, coupled with the current travelling challenges across the continent, it is absolutely impossible for us to arrange a trip to Libya within 48 hours.

“Consequently, we have written to CAF requesting a rescheduling of the date of the fixture to December 31 to enable us to sort out our visas, flight bookings, hotel reservations and other logistics.

“CAF has however advised that for the request to be considered, a written agreement of both clubs must be submitted to the board. Hence, we have written to our hosts, Al Ittihad, hoping to get their cooperation in reaching an agreement for the new date for the fixture.”

The winners of the tie on aggregate will proceed to the group phase of the CAF Confederation Cup.
