JUNIOR Ajayi has left African champions Al Ahly, the club announced on Thursday night.
The Nigerian forward has thus ended his five-year stay at the Egyptian giants.
Ajayi’s exit comes just a few days to Al Ahly’s CAF Super Cup clash with Raja Casablanca on 22 December in Doha, Qatar.
Ahly Marketing Director Amir Tawfik told the club’s official website that Ajayi’s departure was by mutual consent after settling all the financial and administrative details.
Ajayi took to social media to show his appreciation to the club, where he won tons of silverware.
“With deep gratitude to God, I announce the end of my contract with Ahly Club, to the management who were nothing but family to me, to my teammates who were my brothers and to the fans, you were all supportive,” he wrote.
“Thank you for your solidarity with me during those years, you guys are the best in the game, I love you all.”
Former Shooting Stars of Ibadan star Ajayi, 25, joined Ahly in 2016 from from Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien.
He played 161 matches for the Egyptians, scoring 41 goals and providing 30 assists for the Cairo giants.
He also won four Egyptian Premier League titles and two Champions League trophies.
The Nigerian star lost his spot following the arrival of coach Pitso Mosimane last season, who brought in South Africa’s Percy Tau and Mozambique’s Luis Miquissone.
