NIGERIA’s newest man-made island, Ocean City, was yesterday unveiled.
Appropriately named ‘Jewel of the Atlantic’, the facility is powered by a commercial lawyer, industrialist, and entrepreneur, Bar Dewunmi Osagie.
Present at the ceremony with the motivator was Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour, JSC (rtd); his wife, Doyin Rhodes-Vivour, SAN; Asiwaju Dr Olawale Cole, President, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Emmanuel Ikazoboh, former Group Chairman, Ecobank.
Others are Oba Solomon Adedire, who represented the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojajah 11, Barrister Mike Ozekhome, SAN and a representative of the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
Ocean City occupies 308 hectares reclaimed from the Atlantic Ocean and is a shouting distance from the already high-density and boisterous Ikoyi, Victoria Island, and Lekki Residential Scheme 1 neighbourhoods. It is currently accessible by land through an extension of Ahmadu Bello Way and expected to be by air and water through the proposed Ocean City Lagos Airport and Cruise Terminal. The island is conceived as a green smart city, the first of its type in the country, and will be powered by the 5G network, which will not only drive efficient infrastructure and amenities management but will impact every aspect life, delivering smart homes, offices, healthcare education via human-to-machine connections and interactions.
In addition to driving facilities such as power supply and water supply, drainage, transport networks, security, it will also drive eco-sustainability, with the latter firmly placing the emphasis on flora and fauna.
