· Chidinma voted, fate bids good tidings to Tosin as he returns to the jungle
ARDENT viewers of the survival reality contest show, the Gulder Ultimate Search (GUS) season 12 had sat in front of their television screens last Sunday to see who will find the hidden treasure secretly buried by renowned craftsman, Akolo in the forest of Ijunka but organisers of the show pulled a very strong suspense on everyone as no winner emerged.
Instead the date for the finale was shifted.
The organisers, Nigeria Breweries had set Sunday, December 19 as the date for final of this year’s edition of the survival reality contest, which made a return after a seven-year- hiatus.
However, the show for the first time is having two-part finale episodes, as it come with unpredictable twists and turns, one of which was the introduction of boomerangs.
For the first time, viewers are given the power to bring back one contestant, and as explained by the show host, Toke Makinwa, any contestant that possessed the Boomerang has a chance to return to the jungle if voted in by the viewers.
Seven contestants possessed the boomerang out of which four were evicted during the course of the show. The four who possessed the boomerang before their eviction were Tosin Emiola, Esitima Edem, Osasere ‘Osas’ Agbonile (Jnr) and Chidinma Okeibe, the last woman standing.
Following thousands of votes casted by fans of the show, Chidinma polled 37.2 percent of votes.
She was closely followed by Tosin who scored 25.1 percent of votes, just as Esitima came third with 20.9 percent of votes, while Osas came fourth with 16.8 percent of votes.
Although Chidinma had the highest number of votes, she could not return to the jungle for health reasons, Tosin who came second automatically got the slot to go back into the jungle for the final search of Akolo’s chest.
Like the proverbial saying, “who the gods have blessed, no man can course”. To this end, Tosin will join the last three warriors that include Damola, Odudu, and Damilola in the jungle as they compete for the ultimate task of finding Akolo’s chest. The winner of this season’s search will go home with prizes worth N50million which includes an SUV and Cash.
Chidimma, who was the last woman standing became the 15th contestants to be evicted from this year’s show. Her eviction from the jungle followed her dismal performance in the task tagged ‘The Combination of Locks’, which was won by Damola.
Her closest rival in the contest, Rachael was kicked out of the survival reality show a day earlier after failing the day’s task — Splash, which came with a N100,000 cash reward for the last man or woman standing. It was won by Odudu Otu.
Themed ‘The Age of Craftsmanship’, this year’s edition of the reality show involved a total of 18 contestants with 16 of them initially unveiled by Gideon Okeke, during the unveiling ceremony while a new twist was added with two other contestants as wildcards.
With the final episodes set to be broadcast on Saturday, December 25 and Sunday, December 26 from 6pm to 7pm on DSTV Africa Magic Showcase channel 151, Africa Magic Urban channel 153 and Africa Magic Family channel 154, who will the guardians of Ijunka forest be made worthy to open Akolo’s chest to retrieve the hidden treasure?
