VETERAN Nollywood actor, filmmaker and chairman of Screen Writers Guild of Nigeria (SWGN), Sam Obiago has died.
Details of his death is not yet clear but his colleagues have taken to social media to mourn his passing.
Obiago was a filmmaker, actor and TV personality who has featured in over 100 Nollywood movies.
Sam Obiago was a versatile Nigerian actor, film maker, movie producer and TV personality whose face adorned over 100 Nollywood movies. Prior to his sojourn in Nollywood, he had a career in the banking sector which he gave up for Nollywood and movies.
As a banker, he worked with Ecobank Nig Plc and Access Bank. Until his death, he was the Managing Director and the CEO of Fincraft Sarl Ltd. He noted with his white Afro hairstyle trademark signature and 5″7 feet height.
Obiago, who was in his 50s until his death started his Nollywood career in 2013 and rose to be one of the star actors in the Nigerian movie industry, especially as he often plays the role of a King, chief, elder, father and sometimes a wicked uncle.
Born a twin on September 25 in Kaduna, Daddysam as he is also called by acquaintances hails from Delta State. He attended St. Gregory’s College, Lagos before he proceeded to Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu, where he studied Mass Communications. He thereafter obtained a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA).
His movie runs include, Gifted, Tears of a King, Woman of Fire, Ghana Island, Royal Turning Point, Royal Appointment, Bargain, Combined Forces, Altar of Love, Wishes, Ancient Love, Drunk Princess, The Missing Blood, Obed and Ruth, The Visitor, Osinachi, One Night Stand, Throne of Fire, Ancient Key, Wicked Tradition, Tortured Heart, Royal Wreck, The King’s Decision, Blood Brothers, The Orbit, Strength of Womanhood, Battle of Kings, Royal Headache, Another Life, Game of War, Jacob’s House, My Decision, Village Runs, Magic Dragon, The Love of Father and Daughter, A Poison to the Heart and Grievous Oath, among others.
Until his death, Obiago was a devoted Christian and worshiped with The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM) overseen by Bishop Mike Okonkwo lived in Asaba, Delta State capital. He was happily married and blessed with two sons – Dilim Boluwatife Obiago and Shalom C Obiago, who are said to be based in the United States of America. As of 2021, his networth was put at $300,000 US Dollars.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of his death was yet to be ascertained. The news of his death was made public on Thursday, December 23, 2021 by the President of Actors Guild of Nigerian (AGN), Emeka Rollas.
