SUPER Eagles striker Odion Ighalo could be returning to the Premier League in January, according to reports in England.
The 32-year-old Nigeria international is currently playing in the Saudi Arabia Pro League with Al Shabab where he has hit top form.
The former Watford and Manchester United star is one of the strikers newly-rich Newcastle United are looking to sign in the January transfer window, Sky Sports claimed on Friday.
Interestingly, Newcastle United were recently taken over by a Saudi-backed consortium in a £300m deal.
The English outlet went further to report that Al Shabab have informally asked Ighalo if he would be interested in a move to Newcastle United if the club make a move.
Ighalo would ‘seriously consider a move if contact is made’, the report added.
The Nigerian is at the moment the joint-top scorer in the Saudi top flight with nine goals from 13 appearances after moving to the Middle East from China’s Shanghai Shenhua after his loan deal at Old Trafford came to an end earlier this year.
His contract at Al Shabab expires in the summer of 2023.
Ighalo, who scored 40 goals in 100 appearances for Watford between 2014 and 2017, recently returned to the Super Eagles two years after retiring.
He featured in the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifier against Cape Verde in Lagos in November, failing to add to his 16 international goals in 36 outings.
It is unclear if the striker, who scored five times in 23 games for Manchester United during his loan spell at the club between January 2020 and Janaury 2021, will be included in Nigeria’s squad for the Africa Cup of Nations in January.
