SUPER Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho and his fellow Nigerian Ademola Lookman both posted impressive performances but could not prevent Leicester City from losing at Manchester City on Boxing Day Sunday.
Iheanacho had a hand in all of Leicester City’s goals against his former club, assisting two and scoring one, while Lookman netted one of the goals in the nine-goal thriller that ended in a 6-3 win for Manchester City.
Champions and Premier League leaders Manchester City took a 4-0 lead in the first half through goals from Kevin de Bruyne, Riyad Mahrez, Ilkay Gundogan and Raheem Sterling.
Leicester City however pulled it back to 4-3 in a 10-minute spell in the second half — between the 55th and 65th minutes — with Iheanacho cleverly setting up James Maddison and Lookman before scoring from inside the Manchester City box himself.
The champions shook off the lethargy though, and scored two more to seal the win that kept them top of the table.
At Carrow Road also on Sunday, Bukayo Saka kept up his productive form with two goals in Arsenal’s 5-0 win over Norwich City.
The England international with Nigerian heritage has now scored or assisted in each of Arsenal’s last four games.
Kieran Tierney, Alexandre Lacazette and Emile Smith Rowe scored the other goals as Arsenal tightened their grip on fourth place with 35 points, six ahead of fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
Arsenal’s North London rivals Tottenham also won on Sunday, easing past their visitors Crystal Palace 3-0 with goals from Harry Kane, Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min.
In the other Boxing Day fixture in the Premier League, West Ham slipped further from the top four positions as they lost 3-2 at home to Southampton.
