LEICESTER City should be encouraged by their display against Manchester City on Sunday despite going down to a 6-3 defeat at the Etihad Stadium, according to Ademola Lookman.
The forward, who is on loan from RB Leipzig, scored one of Leicester City’s goals in the Boxing Day Premier League clash against the champions and leaders.
Lookman, who is eligible for Nigeria after playing international football at youth level for England, was obviously pleased that he scored, but the result left a feeling of disappointment.
He expects the Foxes to kick on and get better in attack after putting three goals past a normally tight Manchester City defence.
“It’s mixed emotions,” the former Everton star told LCFC TV. “Obviously, going 4-0 down in the first half, and coming back out, scoring three goals, it’s 4-3 and we’re almost going to equalise. They scored two more goals, so it’s disappointing.
“It’s a top team we were playing against with high-quality players. Obviously, we knew that, but I think we showed our quality in moments. We created a lot of chances today, so we can take positives from the game. We create opportunities for each other and that’s always a good thing.
“As we keep on playing, the confidence between us will grow and we’ll create even more chances together.”
Leicester City scored all their goals in a 10-minute spell in the second half to pull the score from 4-0 to 4-3, with James Maddison and Lookman’s compatriot Kelechi Iheanacho also netting.
Lookman was pleased with his side’s resolve in that second half performance.
“It was just about showing our character really, not going out in the second half feeling sorry for ourselves,” he added.
“We tried to take the game to the opposition and I felt like we did that. I missed a few games through illness, so I’m just glad to be back. I’ll keep working and keep striving to improve.
“Especially when it was 4-3, you felt that energy from the fans. Every single goal that we got back, they got louder and louder and you could feel the home supporters getting a bit nervous. It’s just a shame that we couldn’t get the fourth goal to make it 4-4 and maybe go on to win the game.
“It’s gone now and we move onto the next on.”
