UNION Berlin striker Taiwo Awoniyi was one of three players who reported to the Super Eagles camp in Abuja on Wednesday in preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Abuja camp opened on Wednesday and will host the team until 5 January when they are scheduled to fly off to Cameroon for the tournament that begins on 9 January.
Enyimba goalkeeper John Noble and Orlando Pirates of South Africa defender Olisah Ndah, a surprise inclusion in the AFCON squad, are the other players in camp, according to team officials.
While players based in the other European leagues are expected to arrive before the end of the week, those based in England will be in town from 2 January after the Premier League’s festive fixtures.
The Premier League contingent includes Leicester City pair Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho, Watford’s Emmanuel Dennis and William Troost-Ekong, Everon’s Alex Iwobi and Brentford’s Frank Onyeka.
Leon Balogun and Joe Aribo, both of Scottish Premiership champions Rangers, will also arrive in early January.
The Super Eagles are in Group D for the tournament and they will be based in the northern city of Garoua where they will battle Egypt, Guinea Bissau and Sudan for round of 16 slots.
