SENEGAL failed to score yet again in the Cameroon 2021 Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday but qualified for the round of 16 as the winners of Group B.

The Teranga Lions, who were finalists at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt, drew 0-0 with Malawi on Tuesday in Bafoussam but could have lost.

The Flames were given a late penalty during the clash but it was overturned after a VAR review as the shared points took Senegal’s points haul to five.

The Lions, despite parading elite attacking talent including Liverpool’s Sadio Mane, have scored only one goal in their three games in Cameroon, a last-gasp penalty against Zimbabwe in their opening match.

Malawi finished on four points and in third place, but they will likely advance as one of the best four third-placed teams.

In the other Group B match taking place simultaneously in Yaounde, Zimbabwe produced their best display of the tournament to beat Guinea 2-1.

Despite the result, it was Guinea who scraped through to the knockout rounds in second place while Zimbabwe crashed out as the bottom team of the group.

Knowledge Musona gave the Warriors the lead in the 26th minute when he planted a magnificent header into the Guinea net.

Kudakwashe Mahachi doubled Zimbabwe’s lead two minutes before half-time with a long-range shot.

Guinea cut the lead in half four minutes after the break through Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita but the Syli Nationale could not find the equaliser and the Warriors bowed out of the competition their heads held high.
