THE Ghana Football Association and the sacked head coach of the Black Stars Milovan Rajevac are at loggerheads over what the Serbian is entitled to, according to reports.
The Black Stars will face Nigeria’s Super Eagles in the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifying playoffs in March.
The FA was forced to sack Rajevac by the sports ministry, who paid the coach’s wages, after the Black Stars’ dismal outing at the Cameroon 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
Outlets in Ghana claimed on Sunday that Rajevac has refused to accept his $270,000 compensation, apparently asking for more.
Rajevac was hired in September to rescue Ghana’s flagging Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign, and he oversaw the controversial 1-0 win over South Africa in November that got the Black Stars into the playoffs.
Even after Ghana’s embarrassing AFCON exit in the group phase, Rajevac had insisted that his major duty was to guide the team to the World Cup and he had no intention of quitting before achieving his aim.
While the GFA dithered and considered leaving him on, the sports ministry threatened to stop paying Rajevac’s salaries if he was not sacked.
The Serb was then fired on Friday, three days after a humiliating 3-2 defeat to AFCON newcomers Comoros sealed Ghana’s ouster from the tournament.
Rajevac, 68, was rehired by Ghana in 2021, eleven years after he led them to the verge of a historic World Cup semi-final in South Africa.
