CHELSEA and Liverpool claimed impressive wins on Sunday in their quest to close the gap on Premier League leaders Manchester City.

The Blues saw off a flat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 at Stamford Bridge through goals from Hakim Ziyech and Thiago Silva.

After Harry Kane’s goal for Spurs was disallowed for a foul on Silva, Chelsea finally got the lead their dominant display deserved.

Ziyech picked up a pass from Callum Hudson-Odoi on the edge of the Tottenham box two minutes into the second half and curled in a superb shot beyond Hugo Lloris’ reach.

Silva made sure of the points in the 55th minute with a header off a free-kick to keep Chelsea in third place on 47 points, 10 behind City.

With the defeat, Tottenham missed the chance to overtake Manchester United into fourth place.

Earlier in the afternoon, Liverpool cut their deficit to City to nine points with a 3-1 win at Crystal Palace.

Virgil van Dijk and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain gave Liverpool a 2-0 lead into half-time but Odsonne Edouard pulled one back for the hosts 10 minutes after the break.

Fabinho scored an 89th-minute penalty to settle Liverpool’s nerves and ensure they claimed the three points.

Arsenal also missed the opportunity to go into the precious fourth spot after a drab 0-0 draw at home to Burnley.

The Gunners are in sixth place, two behind United in fourth and level with Tottenham Hotspur in seventh.

In the other Premier League clash on Sunday, Leicester City and played out a 1-1 draw.
