FORMER D’Tigers captain Olumide Oyedeji is one of the candidates who will vie for positions into the new board of the Nigeria Basketball Federation on Monday.
After a long delay due to an internal crisis, the NBBF is finally holding its elective congress where board members will be voted in.
Eight eligible candidates for the various positions have been cleared to be part of the elections scheduled for Benin City, Edo State on Monday.
According to the list of cleared candidates published by the NBBF on Saturday, Oyedeji is contesting for the South West zone ticket against Babs Ogunade.
Oyedeji, 40, is one of the most successful players in Nigerian basketball history, having played in the NBA and captained D’Tigers to the Men’s AfroBasket title in 2015.
His opponent Ogunade is also a prominent name in basketball circles and he is seeking to retain his seat as the NBBF’s vice-president.
Oyedeji, Ogunade and six other contestants were cleared by the Dr Lanre Glover-led Electoral Committee.
Incumbent NBBF President Musa Kida, who is vying for another term, has also been cleared to contest for a zonal representative position.
Anambra State Basketball Chairman, Ugo Udezue, has emerged as the sole candidate from the South East zone.
