AHMADU Musa Kida has won a second term as the President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation.

He received 37 votes at the Elective Congress of the body in Benin City, Edo State on Monday.

However, there was a parallel election in Abuja also on Monday with Mark Igoche of Mark Mentors Basketball Club declared as the new NBBF president.

The Benin City election has more credibility though, as there was a representative from the Federation of International Basketball Associations present.

Babatunde Ogunade stepped down as South West representative on the floor of the Benin City election to allow ex-Nigeria captain Olumide Oyedeji to win a seat on the board.

In the race for the Vice Presidency however, Ogunade received 30 votes while Oyedeji got seven votes, with 28 states out of 36 states and Federal Capital Territory present.

Anambra State Basketball Association Chairman, Ugo Udezue, was voted in as the South East representative on the board while Alhaji Abba Kaka won the North East zone seat.

Surajo Yusuff was elected as the North West representative, with Adamu Jalong receiving the nod of the delegates from the zone.

“I thank you for the confidence reposed in me by your vote and my acceptance to continue to serve, I am in no doubt that the task ahead will be simple,” Kida, who endured endless crisis and controversy during his first four-year term, said.

“However, no task is insurmountable if we put our minds to it and forge ahead together.

“I assure you of our unflinching dedication as we hope to carry everyone along.

“Regarding this electoral process, there is no victor and no vanquished. I am glad that this election was concluded without rancour and in the true spirit of sportsmanship. The only victor is Nigerian basketball.”

Others sworn in include Victor Okoro (Military/Paramilitary), Colonel Samuel Ahmedu (international representative), and Professor Musa Yakassai (NapherSD).

The Benin City congress was monitored by FIBA representative Ahmed Elhariri (President of FIBA Zone 5 and member, FIBA Central Board) and Nigeria Olympic Committee’ represented by its second Vice President Ishaku Tikon, according to an official NBBF release.
