ARSENAL are on the verge of handing a new contract to Bukayo Saka to match his status as one of the leaders of the squad.
Saka, born in England to Nigerian parents, has emerged this season as one of the Gunners’ most important players, scoring seven goals and making four assists in 26 appearances in all competitions as the club continue their quest to return to European football.
Although 20-year-old Saka’s current cobtract will not run out until 2024, Arsenal are preparing a new deal for the forward, according to Football London.
The outlet claimed on Tuesday that Saka is now seen as a key player under Mikel Arteta and Arsenal are keen to reward the forward with a new deal.
Since making his senior debut in the 2018/2019 season, Saka has made 114 appearances for the Gunners, scoring 18 goals and making 25 assists.
He signed a new contract in 2020 reported to be worth around £30,000 per week, and the new deal is expected to be significantly higher, especially as Arsenal has reduced their wage bill with the departure of the high-earning Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and other players.
Saka is spearheading Arsenal’s push for a return to the UEFA Champions League, with the Gunners in a four-way battle with Manchester United, West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur for fourth place in the Premier League.
