DAVID De Gea has won the Premier League Player of the Month award for January.

The Manchester United star becomes the first goalkeeper to win the prize since February 2016, when Southampton’s
Fraser Forster claimed it.

De Gea made 22 saves in Manchester United’s four matches in January, including five in the 1-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers, seven in a 2-2 draw with Aston Villa and eight in the 3-1 win at Brentford.

He kelt a clean sheet in a 1-0 win over top-four rivals West Ham United.

Overall, the Spain international has the most saves in the Premier League this season with 84, 13 more than his nearest challenger, Illan Meslier of Leeds United.

It is the first time De Gea, 31, has won the Player of the Month award, after 361 Premier League appearances and 127 clean sheets.

He beat Jarrod Bowen, Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Harrison, Joao Moutinho and James Ward-Prowse to claim the prize.
While De Gea won the players award, Bruno Lage was named the Premier League Manager of the Month for January 2022.

The Portuguese coach, 45, won after votes from the public were combined with those of a panel of football experts, beating Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp and Dean Smith.

Lage led his Wolves side to victories in all three of their January matches, earning him the award for the first time.
“I’m very proud because it was a good month for us,” Lage said. “The performance of the team, it was very good and we achieved three wins.”

He guided Wolves to their first-ever Premier League win at Old Trafford, a 1-0 success against Manchester United, among other wins in January.
