FALCONETS head coach Chris Danjuma is upbeat about his side’s chances in their battle with Cameroon in the qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
The Nigerian girls host Cameroon in Abuja on Saturday in the second leg of the fourth qualifying round for the tournament.
The first leg in Douala on 22 January ended 0-0 and Danjuma is backing his side to complete the mission on Saturday at the refurbished Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
“We have no choice but to go all out for goals,” Danjuma told thenff.com.
“The Cameroonian team is a strong one but we have worked hard since returning from the first leg in Douala and I believe my girls will get the job done.”
Saturday’s match will be the first international match at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium since the venue hosted a 2016 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between the Super Falcons and Senegal in April 2016.
It is also the first of a series of international fixtures for Nigeria at the revamped ground in the next few months, including the first leg of the 2022 Women’s AFCON final qualifying fixture between the Super Falcons and Cote d’Ivoire, and the return leg of the Qatar 2022 World Cup playoff between the Super Eagles and the Black Stars of Ghana.
The Falconets, who have reached the final of the U-20 World Cup twice, need victory with any margin to advance to the final qualifying round, where they will battle Morocco or Senegal for a place in the tournament in Costa Rica in August this year.
Togo’s Vincentia Amedome will be the centre referee on Saturday, to be assisted by compatriot Abra Agbedanou (assistant referee 1), Ghanaian Doris Essuman Darko (assistant referee 2) and another Togolese Edoh Kindedji (fourth official). The match commissioner is Aisha Nalule from Uganda while Ghanaian Emmanuella Grace Aglago will serve as referee assessor.
